Tosha Larios Living Sustainably: Small Steps for a Better Planet

Hello everyone, it’s Tosha Larios here! Living sustainably is something we can all do to help make the world a better place. Sustainable living means making choices that are kind to the planet, conserve resources, and create less waste. Today, I’m excited to share some simple ways we can all live more sustainably!

What is Sustainable Living?

Sustainable living means making smart choices that reduce our impact on the environment. This could mean using less plastic, choosing products that are eco-friendly, or even growing our own food. At Star Track Farm, we believe everyone can make a difference by making small, mindful changes in daily life.

Why Does Sustainability Matter?

Imagine if everyone used resources without thinking about the future – we’d run out of the things we need! Living sustainably helps protect the environment, saves natural resources, and supports healthier communities. It’s a way of showing care for the planet so future generations can enjoy it too. This idea is at the heart of everything I do, from managing Star Track Farm to sharing tips on Advanced Girl Math.

Tips for Living Sustainably

Here are some easy steps to start living more sustainably. You’ll be surprised how simple it can be!

1. Reduce Plastic Use: Try to use reusable bags, bottles, and containers instead of single-use plastic. Bringing your own bag to the store or carrying a refillable water bottle are great ways to cut down on waste.

2. Save Energy: Turn off lights and unplug electronics when you’re not using them. Using energy wisely not only helps the planet but also saves money.

3. Eat Local and Organic: Eating locally grown food, like the produce from Star Track Farm, supports local farmers and reduces the energy used for transportation. Organic foods are often grown in ways that protect the soil and water.

4. Compost Food Waste: Instead of throwing away food scraps, you can compost them. This creates natural fertilizer for gardens and keeps waste out of landfills. Composting is a great way to recycle nutrients back into the soil. Check out more tips on healthy soil and composting on my blog at Food as Medicine.

5. Use Natural Cleaners: Many cleaning products have chemicals that can harm the environment. You can make your own natural cleaners with ingredients like vinegar, baking soda, and lemon juice. They’re simple, effective, and safer for the planet.

6. Recycle and Upcycle: Recycling is good, but upcycling is even better! This means finding new uses for old items. For example, you can turn glass jars into storage containers or use old t-shirts as cleaning rags. Learn more about these creative ideas on my blog, Advanced Girl Math.

My Sustainable Living Journey

For me, living sustainably has always been about making thoughtful choices. As a Navy veteran and healthcare professional, I’ve always felt a responsibility to protect what we have. Running Star Track Farm has taught me even more about the importance of working with nature, not against it. Sustainable living isn’t just a trend – it’s a way of life that benefits everyone.

Living sustainably is a big part of what I share on ToshaLarios.com, where you’ll find ideas and stories from my journey. Every action, big or small, adds up to make a difference.

How You Can Get Involved

Want to start living more sustainably? Here are some ideas to get you going:

Shop at Farmers’ Markets: Local markets are a great place to find fresh, seasonal foods that haven’t traveled far. By buying local, you support farmers who care about the environment. You can learn more about why this matters at Star Track Farm.

Grow Your Own Garden: Whether it’s a small herb garden on your windowsill or a full vegetable garden in your backyard, growing your own food is a great way to live sustainably. It’s also a fun and healthy activity for the whole family.

Educate Yourself and Others: The more you know, the easier it is to make sustainable choices. Check out my STEM blog to learn about how science and sustainability go hand in hand.

By making even small changes, we can all have a big impact. Sustainable living is for everyone, and together, we can create a healthier, happier world. For more tips on sustainable living, recipes, and gardening ideas, visit my blog, Cooking with Dr. T.
