Tosha Larios Living Sustainably: Simple Steps to Protect Our Planet
Welcome to ToshaLarios.com! Living sustainably is more than just a trend; it’s a lifestyle that protects the planet for future generations. My name is Tosha Larios, and today, I’m excited to share some practical ways we can all make small changes that lead to a big difference. If you’re looking for ways to live a greener life, you’re in the right place!
In this post, we’ll cover what sustainable living means, why it’s important, and easy ways to start. I’ll also share links to some of my other projects, like Star Track Farm, Food as Medicine, Advanced Girl Math, and STEM with Dr. T, so you can dive deeper into specific topics. Let’s get started!
What Does Living Sustainably Mean?
Living sustainably means using resources wisely and making choices that reduce our impact on the environment. This can include things like reducing waste, conserving energy, and supporting local and eco-friendly products. The goal is to meet our needs without harming the planet or using up resources future generations will need.
As someone who’s deeply committed to sustainability, I run Star Track Farm, where we grow organic fruits and vegetables with eco-friendly methods. Sustainable living can start with simple changes—like using reusable bags or buying less plastic—and grow into a full lifestyle that helps the earth.
Why is Sustainable Living Important?
Our planet faces challenges like climate change, pollution, and resource depletion. By choosing to live sustainably, we help reduce these problems. Small actions can make a big difference when more people join in. Sustainable living also means creating a healthier world for ourselves, our families, and future generations.

Simple Steps to Start Living Sustainably
1. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
• Reducing waste is one of the easiest ways to live sustainably. Use reusable bags, water bottles, and containers. Buy only what you need, and try to recycle everything that you can.
• Check out my other blog, Advanced Girl Math, to see how sustainable habits can save you money and help you make smarter financial decisions.
2. Shop Local
• Buying local foods supports small farmers and reduces the carbon footprint from transporting goods long distances. At Star Track Farm, we grow fresh, organic produce for our community, providing people with healthier food options while reducing the need for long-distance shipping.
• Local foods are fresher, taste better, and often have fewer pesticides, making them a great choice for a sustainable diet.
3. Conserve Energy
• Turn off lights when you leave a room, unplug electronics when not in use, and consider energy-efficient appliances. Even small changes, like switching to LED bulbs, can save energy and lower your utility bills.
• You can find more tips on energy conservation and how they impact your health at my STEM with Dr. T blog, where I explain the science behind sustainable practices.
4. Reduce Water Waste
• Use water-saving devices like low-flow showerheads and turn off the tap when brushing your teeth. By conserving water, we help protect our water resources for future generations.
• Sustainable farming, like what we practice at Star Track Farm, includes water-saving techniques that reduce waste and keep crops healthy without draining the earth’s resources.
5. Choose Eco-Friendly Products
• Look for products made from sustainable materials like bamboo, recycled plastic, or organic cotton. Many everyday items, like toothbrushes, bags, and cleaning products, now come in eco-friendly versions that are better for the planet.
• Choosing products with minimal or compostable packaging can also help reduce the waste that ends up in landfills.
6. Eat More Plant-Based Foods
• Reducing meat consumption, even just a few times a week, can have a significant impact on the environment. Plant-based foods require less water and land to produce, and they often come with fewer emissions.
• On my Food as Medicine blog, I share recipes and tips on plant-based eating that nourish the body and are gentle on the earth.
Building a Sustainable Community
Sustainable living is about more than just individual choices. It’s also about building a community of people who care about the planet. Whether you start a community garden, join a local clean-up group, or support sustainable businesses, every effort adds up.
At Star Track Farm, we work closely with our local community to provide fresh produce and promote eco-friendly practices. Supporting local farms and businesses helps keep money within the community and reduces the environmental impact of shipping products long distances.
Why Sustainable Choices Matter Financially
Living sustainably isn’t just good for the earth; it can also save you money. Using less energy, buying only what you need, and making things last longer all help your budget. For more tips on budgeting and making wise financial choices, visit my blog Advanced Girl Math. There, I share how eco-friendly decisions are good for your wallet, too!
